Bikaner is a city in the north Indian state of Rajasthan, east of the border with Pakistan. It's surrounded by the Thar Desert. The city is known for the 16th-century Junagarh Fort, a huge complex of ornate buildings and halls. Within the fort, the Prachina Museum displays traditional textiles and royal portraits. Nearby, the Karni Mata Temple is home to many rats considered sacred by Hindu devotees.
Junagarh Fort: Built in 1593 A.D. by Raja Rai Singh (1571-1611 A.D.), a general in the army of Emperor Akbar, the fort is a formidable structure encircled by a moat and has some beautiful places within. These places, made in red sandstone (Dulmera) and marble, make a picturesque ensemble of courtyards, balconies, kiosks and windows dotted all over the structure. The imposing fort has 986 long walls with 37 bastions and two entrances. The Suraj Pol or sun gate - It is the main entrance to the fort.
Lalgarh Palace: The architectural masterpiece in red stone, the Palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh in the memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh. The palace has beautiful lattice work and filigree work. Sprawling lawns with blooming bougainvillea and dancing peacocks make it a not to be missed visual treat. Ranakpur Jain temple or Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara is a Śvētāmbara Jain temple at Ranakpur dedicated to Tirthankara Rishabhanatha. The temple is located in a village of Ranakpur near Sadri town in the Pali district of Rajasthan..The temple is famous for its beautiful carved idol of Parshvanatha made out of a single marble slab. The idol has 1008 snake heads and numerous tails. Two chauri bearers and Yaksha and yakshi, half-human and half-snake, stand on either side. The city palace flourished when Udaipur was the capital of the Mewar kingdom. The Mewar kings have lost their royal privileges when India became independent in 1947, but the family still owns the palace. Furthermore, they still see it as their duty to work in favour of the development of Udaipur.
A large part of the palace complex is now a museum while the Shiv Niwas palace and the Fateh Prakash palace have become a heritage hotel.
